How to Travel to UBI - Covilhã

TAP has agreed to grant the following discounts to all participants of this event who make their reservations and purchase tickets exclusively through the TAP Air Portugal website:

  • 10% economy class (excluding Brand Discount, which will have no discount)
  • 10% Business Class
  • Payment will be made by credit card, or other means of payment available on the website.
  • Bookings made by travel agencies or at TAP counters are not eligible for the discount
  • The discount is applicable for roundtrip travel from any TAP destination to Lisbon and/or Porto and is valid only on flights operated by TAP.
  • Bookings that include code-share flights operated by other airlines or flights from other airlines do not benefit from the discount.
  • The reservation can be made at any time, with the travel dates being within the period of 10 days before / 10 days after the event dates. The event dates have to be included in the travel period.
  • The discount is not applicable on resident / student / child / infant / senior rates, etc.
  • The event will be assigned a specific code that must be mentioned when booking online in order to benefit from the discount.
  • TAP will provide the organization with an attachment in English with the conditions and instructions on how to book online. The organization will publicize this attachment by the participants and on the event’s website.
  • The organization will consider TAP an “Official Carrier” of the event and will include this information in the event’s documentation, as well as in other media considered important (for example, the website). TAP will provide its logo for inclusion on documentation and the website.
  • All reservations made will follow the rules of the chosen fares with regard to changes and refunds, so we leave the suggestion of purchasing tickets that have some flexibility, subject or not to penalty.

Information - How to get to the city of Covilhã

The main airports in mainland Portugal are located in the cities of Lisbon and Porto, both around 250 km from the city of Covilhã. Madrid/Barajas Airport in Spain is around 400 km away. These cities can be connected to Covilhã by bus and/or train or car.

From Lisbon

By Bus

Traveling by bus is a good choice for those who want a quick trip on public transport. It costs between €20 and €30 from Lisbon to Covilhã.

Once you arrive at the airport, you should go to the airport subway station, located in the Lisbon Airport Building (Arrivals). You should take the red line of Metro to Oriente Station. At Oriente Station, take the bus to Covilhã (Direction Guarda). The journey takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes. By Train

An easy way to get to Covilhã is by train. Normally, it costs between €20 – €26 for a single ticket between Lisbon and Covilhã.

Once you arrive at the airport, you should go to the airport subway station, located in the Lisbon Airport Building (Arrivals). You should take the red line of Metro (red line – direction São Sebastião) to Oriente station. At Oriente station, take the train to Covilhã (Direction Covilhã/Guarda). The journey takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes.

By Car

Starting at Humberto Delgado Airport, drive towards the A1, staying on the A1 until exit 7 (towards Torres Novas/Abrantes), take the A23 until exit 30 (towards Covilhã Sul/Hospital), head towards UBI – Faculdade of Engineering or chosen accommodation. Approximate distance: 270Kms. Approximate duration. journey 2 hours and 30 minutes. Route always on highway subject to payment of tolls.

From Porto

By Bus

Once you arrive at the airport, you will have to take the Metro (towards Estádio do Dragão) to Trindade Station. The journey takes about 35 minutes by the purple line – E (Airport – Estádio do Dragão). For those leaving the airport, there is no mistaking it, as it is the only line that arrives at the location. At Trindade Station, you can take any of the lines that pass through Campanhã (A, B, C or F) and get off at Campanhã Station. Still on the platform of the Metro Station, follow the signs for TIC – Terminal Intermodal de Campanhã.

At Terminal Intermodal de Campanhã take the bus to Covilhã (towards Covilhã). The journey takes about 3 hours and 35 minutes and costs around €20.

By Car

Starting the journey at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (towards Covilhã Sul/Hospital), drive towards the A1 until exit 16 (towards Viseu/España), follow the A25 to exit 30 (towards Guarda Sul/Covilhã/Portalegre), follow the A23 until exit 31 (towards Covilhã Norte/Hospital), drive towards UBI – Faculdade de Engenharia or chosen accommodation. Approximate distance: 260Kms. Duration approx. journey time 2 hours and 45 minutes. Route always on highway subject to payment of tolls.

From Madrid

By Plane

You can always choose to continue your trip by air to Lisbon or Porto and then continue with one of the previously proposed alternatives.

By Bus

Terminal 4 Aeropuerto Barajas, 28042 Madrid-Barajas (airport)

Once you arrive at the airport, you can take the bus at the bus station at the airport (the bus stop is located in the new T4 terminal, next to module F of the P4 car park – follow the signs on site). The journey takes approximately 8 hours, usually with a transfer and costs around €40.

Starting the journey at Madrid / Barajas Airport, drive towards Sanchidrian / Salamanca via the AP6, CL-507 and A50. Afterwards, head towards Ciudad Rodrigo (via A62/E80), follow the A25 towards Guarda, merge onto the A23 until exit 31 (towards Covilhã Norte/Hospital), head towards UBI – Faculdade de Engenharia or chosen accommodation. Approximate distance: 430 km. Duration approx. 4 hours and 30 minutes.
