The University of Beira Interior and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro will organize in the city of Covilhã, Portugal, on December 5, 6 and 7, 2023, the CIRMARE 2023 – VI International Congress on “Recovery, Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Buildings”.

With the theme “Resilience and Adaptation of Buildings and Cities to Climate Change”, CIRMARE 2023 aims to contribute to the knowledge and promotion of practices in Rehabilitation that boost the resilience and adaptation of buildings and cities and identify new solutions to meet the future needs of a contemporary society that aims to be more sustainable in its principles and in its actions. Thus, this international congress will promote an ideal opportunity for the exchange of information between professionals and researchers working in the field of recovery, maintenance and rehabilitation of built assets and cities.

Full member of the CIAUD (Research Center for Architecture, Urbanism and Design): Coordinator of the research group “ARCPLAND [Architecture - Place - Landscape]”, whose mission is to promote and conduct research in Architecture and Landscape Architecture, in the fields of Architectural Design, Theory, History, Sustainability, and its relationship with Place, the Heritage and Landscape.

Full Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Department of Civil Construction at the Escola Politécnica of Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and visiting professor at the University of Florida, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Universitat Rovira i Virgili and Western Sydney University. He works in research and teaching Construction Engineering and Management, Safety and Sustainability, working with models in optimization, simulation and multi-criteria analysis. Guest Editor of several international journals and Associate Editor of Frontiers in Built Environment / Sustainable Design and Construction. Academic Editor of the Journal of Engineering, Section Civil Engineering at Hindawi.

Civil Engineer (2008), master in Civil Construction (2011), PhD (2015) and post-doctorate (2016) in Civil Engineering. She is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Construction at the Escola Politécnica of Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. She works in research and teaching in building materials, construction techniques, building pathology, inspection and diagnosis of buildings with advanced resources, building performance, and sustainability.

Jorge Baptista de Azevedo

Architect and Urban Planner, master in Education (1997), PhD in Geography (2007) and post-doctorate from Université Paris 8 Vincennes Saint-Denis, France (2015). Since 1991, he has worked as a professor at the Escola de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade Federal Fluminense, in teaching and research activities related to landscaping design and theory, transcultural landscapes, landscape representation. He was Undergraduate Coordinator from 2001 to 2005 EAU / UFF and vice-coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism-PPGAU UFF 2017-2020. He was a technical advisor at IBAM - Brazilian Institute of Municipal Administration and architect at IPLANRIO - Rio de Janeiro Planning Institute where he worked with the preservation of heritage in its central area.

Associate Professor at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, coordinating research on Built Heritage in the Central Area of Rio de Janeiro and Environmental Comfort in Housing, he also participated as Coordinator of Extension Heritage Education for the training of teachers and classes, with an emphasis on projects for the restoration of listed properties

Has experience in the area of Construction Materials and Quality Control in Civil Construction, working on research projects in the area of recycling Construction Waste (RCC) at the Center for Teaching and Research in Low Environmental Impact Materials and Technologies in Sustainable Construction (NUMATS/POLI/COPPE/UFRJ).

Mohammed Najjar

Architect and Urban Planner (2007), master in International Planning and Sustainable Development (2009), doctor (2019) and post-doctor (2020) in Environmental Engineering. He is a professor in the Department of Civil Construction at the Department of Civil Construction at the Escola Politécnica of Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and a professor in the Environmental Engineering program. He works as a professional in BIM and Sustainable Construction, with experience in Comfort and Sustainability in Buildings, Civil Construction, Urban Engineering and Building Maintenance. Guest Editor of Sustainability - MDPI and Frontiers in Built Environment magazines.

Raimundo Mendes da Silva

Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Coimbra, where he is part of the Coordination team for the Master's Degree in Building Rehabilitation and teaches in the areas of Construction Technology, Building Rehabilitation, Sustainability and Management and Safeguarding Built Heritage. He coordinated the national project "Rehabilitate as a Rule" with a view to adapting construction regulations to the rehabilitation of current buildings, which supported DL 95/2019. He was curator of the world heritage application "University of Coimbra, Alta and Sofia". He is a member of the ICOMOS-Portugal Advisory Board.
